Lab data
Chemdawg potency: THC, CBD and terpenes from 668 lab tests
In 668 state lab tests, Chemdawg flower had a median total THC of 22.94%, with the middle half of results between 19.25% and 25.37%.1 CBD is negligible, and β-caryophyllene is the leading terpene, just ahead of limonene and β-myrcene.1

How published THC figures compare
Strain databases publish a single figure or a range: Leafly lists 18% for Chemdawg and 21%, 25% and 22% on its Chem 91, Chemdawg #4 and Chem Sis pages, AllBud 19% and Weedmaps 19–24.8%; DNA Genetics says 18–25% is typical and that top phenotypes have tested above 30%.2,3,4,5,6,7,8 Seed sellers advertise 17–24% (Crop King’s Chemdawg), 21% (Crop King’s Chemdog), 22% (Top Dawg’s, per Lockbox Seeds), 24% (Humboldt Seed Organization; ILGM) and 24.5% (Green House), and Prime Cuts Nursery lists 19–27% for its Chemdawg 91 clone.9,10,11,12,13,14,15
In state lab results, the middle half of Chemdawg flower tested between 19.25% and 25.37%, so Leafly’s 18% sits in the bottom quarter of results and Weedmaps’ upper figure of 24.8% in the upper half; 29.5% of tests reached 25% or more, and one in ten came in above 28.70%.1 The 32.13% that a Chem Dog entry from Next Harvest recorded at the 2015 Denver Cannabis Cup, then the highest result at any High Times Cup, is a single competition sample; the highest result in our dataset is 34.94%.1,16
Labels matter. 68.9% of the matched tests name a cut, most of them Chem 91 (51.0% of all tests), and flower labeled with a cut name tested higher than plain “Chemdawg” labels (table below).1 Recent years also ran higher: the median was 20.83% in 2022 (116 tests), 24.87% in 2023 (128 tests) and 29.10% in 2024 (46 tests), though the mix of states changes from year to year.1
| Label on the certificate | Tests | Median THC | Middle half | Main states |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chem 91 | 341 | 23.87% | 21.27%–26.12% | NV (234), MD (51), CA (26) |
| Chemdawg, no cut named | 208 | 19.15% | 16.00%–23.33% | MI (57), MD (45), NV (41) |
| Chem D | 54 | 24.73% | 23.05%–26.13% | NV (40), MI (10), CA (1) |
| Chem 4 | 51 | 22.67% | 19.24%–23.76% | MI (29), NV (19), MA (3) |

Limits of this data
- Coverage is uneven. Nevada (334), Michigan (121), Maryland (96), California (45) supply most tests, and Nevada alone supplies 50.0%; state medians range from 15.75% in Hawaii to 29.22% in California (states with 10 or more tests). Massachusetts, where the original cuts are grown, supplies only 23; no matched tests come from New York. Oregon and Rhode Island results carry no product names and could not be matched.
- Some labs report higher THC than others, so we publish medians and middle ranges rather than maxima. No single lab accounts for more than 30.8% of these tests (28 labs in total).
- Terpene medians come from 389 tests with individual terpene values, 331 of them from Nevada labs; the median total terpene content was 1.74% (482 tests). Maryland reports only total terpenes, and Washington, Michigan and Hawaii report none.
- We matched names strictly: crosses and near-miss names such as “02 CHEM '91 x ALIENDAWG” (161) are excluded and counted, and duplicate certificates are removed. Chem 91, Chem D and Chem 4 are counted as Chemdawg and reported separately above; Chem OG, Purple Chemdawg and other named crosses are not.
